Finding Secret Phone Numbers

Reverse Phone Directory

Reverse phone directories are a marvelous tool, allowing almost anyone with an Internet connection to find out who belongs to a particular phone number; very handy when a mysterious number pops up on caller ID.

What you'll need to keep in mind are the fact there are many companies and online website offering this service, make certain you choose a reliable company with comprehensive records and an in-depth database.  Once this is found, you'd be amazed at what you can find; with a bit of diligence (and sometimes money) you can uncover a tremendous amount of information about the person who has that number; name, address, city, state, zip, it's all available with reverse phone number lookup.

For the user the process is simple, you'll simply enter a phone number into a reverse phone directory form, press submit and it's almost like talking to a 411 operator, except in this case instead of inputting a name and being a number, you're inputting a number and in return are getting a person and/or company behind the number.  While this may be new to the average user, companies have been gathering this information for years and these directories are used on a regular basis by private investigators and law enforcement agencies.

Cell phone have largely been private (and consumers are fighting to keep them so) but still there are reverse cell phone directories that will allow you to input a cell phone number and find out the person behind that number.  Scary in a way, but this is the information age; we simply must understand the power that is simply a mouse click away.

Many people are simply curious, and they might use a reverse phone directory for fun or entertainment, others may have more sinister uses, still others might be performing a background check on a business or individual.  The uses are many and varied and we aren't making a judgment call, merely presenting information.  However, this is a perfect way to confirm that someone IS who they say they are; it often pays to play it safe.

Unlisted phone numbers aren't safe from these masses reverse look-up directories, although the better services will charge you a fee; it will often get you the exact results you're looking for.

There are also more mundane reasons to use a reverse lookup feature, for instance you might simply wish to find out what area code a number is coming from.  I used this just recently when a number popped up I didn't recognize, they left an innocuous voice mail, urging me to call back.  A quick search on the area code told me to leave well enough alone, knowing that the area code was from a city where I did not have friends, in fact just the opposite.

Another simple use of reverse look-up directories is when you find an old slip of paper in a drawer with only a phone number and nothing else... "Who might that belong to?"  It's easy to find out this small piece of information with a reverse phone number directory.

Reverse phone directories, like many tools today can be used for both good and bad purposes.  The good; finding a lost friend or loved one, finding out about criminal histories, locating dead beat dads, etc.  The bad; someone tracking down a name and address with plans to use the information for ill intent.

As stated, our intent is not to pass judgment, merely to inform you of the tools available.  Let your own conscience be your guide.
